Tacos, Tokes, Torah, and Tarot

The journey of two loving beings into a life of sustained passion and faith

The Journey of Ev Evnen (they/them) & Lee Harrington (he/they)

You are invited into our world, our path, and our next steps forward.

Though a marriage can be perceived as something new, two lives brought together, our path is one that has a strong foundation, deep work behind it, and our next step is not the first on a journey… but it does take us in the direction we want to go. You are an important part of this step.

Two hearts that build each other up

On April 20th, 2021, 4/20 fell on a taco Tuesday. Lee called up their friend Mia, with the belief that this intersection of holidays was auspicious and should be celebrated.

Mia said they didn’t smoke pot, but Ev did. Ev and Lee had met before, so Lee went to Torchy’s and brought the tacos. The rest is history… and Mia is always celebrated as their yenta.

That Christmas, the two of them were curled up watching dumb Hallmark films, and half-jokingly but not really Ev said they didn’t want to go home alone. Half-jokingly but not really Lee said it was a good idea and they had no other plans. Within 30 minutes Lee was packed and suddenly the Dinsmore/Evnen adventure began for him, and them for Lee.

Both Ev and Lee have lived complex lives, and their imperfections have proven to be a gift for one another. Bad mental health days for one provide an opportunity for giving support. Challenges with physical health provide the other a chance to reach out in turn. By doing so, joys shared become an opportunity for joy returned – building blocks for delight.

In 2023 they had a quiet little commitment ceremony, which shifted their language to “ifwhen we get married.” Not if, ifwhen. One word. Their ceremony was about being each others, and in it for the long game.

Two proposals. The first, even though it was expressly agreed that it would not go this way, took place in Santa Monica on the beach after delicious food. The song “Unforgettable” by Nat King Cole played live as the cool air drifted by and Ev got down on one knee. Yes. Yes yes yes.

The second took place weeks later. A beautiful drive through the the Buffalo Herd Nature Preserve led to a carside proposal surrounded by birds, sunset, and a slow breeze. However, between the birds, moonrise, and a literal buffalo stampede, the ring sliding on a finger was likely the fourth most interesting thing of the night. It was a reminder that side by side they will see so much beauty in the world and sharing the journey matters just as much as the beauty they make for each other.

I am my beloved’s, and my beloved is mine. A vow, a truth, a vision.

Building a vision, finding a home

Lee and Ev have lived rich and full lives along the path to each other. In lieu of objects and possessions, they ask for contributions towards purchasing a house in Denver in the next year or two, as well as assistance with their honeymoon to the Yucatán Peninsula.

These contributions can be sent through the HoneyFund.

For those of you passionate about giving specific gifts, the betrothed have a registry at Crate & Barrel or also enjoy gift certificates to Lowes and Stanley Marketplace.

Thank you for helping our dreams come true.

Hotel and Housing Information

A hotel block is hosted at two hotels in Glendale (yes, they say Denver, but folks in Glendale have opinions). There are two separate hotels in one area that is filled with wonderful restaurants (“their” sushi place is there): the Hilton Garden Inn Denver/Cherry Creek and Residence Inn Denver Cherry Creek. The hotel rate worked out is good, and is only separated between the hotels as the first has classic hotel rooms at competitive rates, but the second has a great array of suites to choose from.

Hilton Garden Inn Denver/Cherry Creek

600 S. Colorado Blvd. Denver, Colorado 80246 USA

Please use our room block for competitive/discount rate and to be part of this awesome cohort of adventurers, or…

Residence Inn Denver Cherry Creek

670 S Colorado Boulevard Denver, Colorado, USA, 80246

Use our link code for discount registration and to be part of our crew at the hotels (but enjoy some suites instead).

And yes…

Denver has an array of AirBnB, Bed and Breakfast, and other options in the area. However, we can not vouch for any of these options.

Enjoy the beauty of Colorado

After living all over the world, or having traversed the diverse United States, Lee and Ev know that Denver is home. Their identities and lives are protected by law, the mountains and plains bring beauty into every breath, and the sunsets look different each night.

If you have never been to Denver before, we encourage you to tack on a few days before or after the ceremony. That might be for the early ceremonies (but go grab some excellent food or wander around S. Broadway, Colfax, downtown, or RiNo district’s excellent mural area during the daytimes). Or, stay after to go to some of Colorado’s iconic ski resorts. Whether there is sunshine or snow, the state has so much to offer.

Just remember that as the mile-high city though, that your drinks can hit twice as heard, and asthma can be tough. Drink lots of water and be kind to your body if you haven’t been here before.

Much love from Max & Ziggy too…
